FAQs

Who coaches our Squad?

Mel Cragg is the Head Coach of the Blue Fin Swimming Club. Mel has over 12 years experience as a swimming coach and has been with Blue Fin for over 4 years. Having been a national level swimmer herself, she understands the importance of having outstanding technique, learning new skills and most importantly making sure swimmers are enjoying their training and keeping engaged.

Where does the Blue Fin Squad train?

In the afternoons, we train at the Prahran Aquatic Centre in their 50m outdoor pool, located on Essex Street in Prahran.

Wednesday Morning 5.45-7.15am @ Harold Holt (Invite Only Session)

Wednesday Afternoon 4.30-6pm @ Prahran

Thursday Afternoon 4.30-6pm @ Prahran

Friday Morning 5.45-7am @ Harold Holt

How many sessions should my child be attending and what is the focus in Squad?

Swimmers can train up to 5 sessions per week depending on their ability, age and squad level.

It is recommended that swimmers should attend a minimum of two sessions per week.

This will help you build up your endurance, work more on your technique and you will also have more opportunities to work on and learn new skills (turns, starts, finishes, reading the clock for time cycles).

It is important to be consistent with training, so that you get the most out of it.

Here at Blue Fin, we pride ourselves on our swimmers having great technique, so there will be a huge focus on technique at every training session.

We are a competitive squad, which means we would like to encourage all swimmers to eventually compete – once they feel confident we believe they are ready to.

Do you need to be a member of the Club?

Yes, all swimmers that train in our squad program need to be a member of the Blue Fin Swimming Club.
